You can choose how you age!
We all get older. It’s not a question of IF we age but HOW we age.
How we age is - research shows - only about 30% based on genetics, which leaves a significant portion of aging dependent on our lifestyle choices.
The Functional Aging Institute offers these definitions:
Primary aging is encoded in our genetic code and therefore cannot be changed. It is “the decline of the body’s cells and physiological systems throughout the life span, which makes the body more susceptible to disease, injury and death.”
Secondary aging is defined as “age-related deteriorations that result from life style behaviors (physical activity, nutrition, tobacco, alcohol), disease processes (diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease), environment (exposure to toxins, air pollution, UV radiation), injury and illness. These factors are highly variable and can be significantly controlled by the individual to delay some age-related processes.” (source: Functional Aging Specialist manual)
Ask yourself: what do you need to do, like to do, want to do and even dream to do?
Just because you are getting older, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stay independent, enjoy quality of life, have adventures, pursue your hobbies and have more life experiences.
Invest in yourself so you can do all you want in your life.
What good is it to live to 95 if the last 20 or so years cannot be lived to its fullest because you are too frail?
There is plenty of evidence that shows that regular exercise improves your health even after years of unhealthy life style choices.
In the sessions with my clients I follow the Functional Aging Institute’s model of Physical Function and integrate all 6 domains in your movement practice at the levels appropriate to your current abilities.
Improving your physical function is possible - no matter how old or how unfit you currently are.
